Unidirectional Carbon Fibre Bike Frames

Some time ago most bike frame were made from, or had a layer of, 12K or 3K carbon fibre. This is what most people think of when they think of carbon fibre. Things have changed in frame construction.

Strange Marks On Your Frame?

Unidirectional Carbon Fibre is used in high end bike frame production due to its incredible strength to weight ratio. This alignment of fibres allows engineers to control the frames properties such as torsional rigidity and flexural strength. Layers of UD Carbon is laid on top of each other to increase the strength or stiffness in a certain area, this can often look to be laid in a random pattern. This layup process results in the wine glass effect, thinner, lighter, stronger.
